The best duck hunting in Argentina takes place in Eastern Argentina, primarily the province of Entre Rios. Entre Rios literally means “between two rivers” in Spanish. The province has the two largest rivers in Argentina running through it. For example, to the east the Uruguay River runs the entire length of the province, and to the west the Parana River. The two rivers encircle the entire province, meet just north of Buenos Aires and terminate into the Rio de la Plata which is technically a gulf.
The expansive river system creates the perfect environment for both migratory and resident ducks, as each year during heavy rains the rivers flood and refill the expansive marsh, pond and lagoon systems scattered throughout the province.
We are blessed at Santa Adela to have the finest duck hunting available, often minutes from the lodge.
Your duck hunt begins with a knock on your door about 90 minutes before sunrise, this gives our hunters a chance for a quick breakfast, coffee, juice and to change into their hunting clothes. Our scouts have already determined where the hunt will occur that morning, in some cases the hunting area is just a few minutes away, and in other cases perhaps 40 minutes knowing that we want to provide the most productive duck hunting experience for all our hunters.
Due to the marsh, pond and lagoon systems the surround Santa Adela we are fortunate to hunt in dry blinds. No waders are needed and no tromping out in chilly water to get your duck blind. You will arrive at your blind a few minutes before sunrise and in the darkness of the morning you will see and hear the ducks in large numbers. In many cases the ducks are already landing on the water and settling in with the decoys- for a passionate duck hunter it’s a beautiful site to see!
Your hunt ends with a trip back to the lodge for storytelling, another meal and some relaxation before your afternoon activity which may include perdiz or dove hunting, or even dorado fishing on the Uruguay River.
The limit is 25 ducks per hunter, on a very active day a good shooter might limit out in 45 minutes, and on a slower morning, perhaps around 2 hours. Our season runs May through September, with no “peak” time during the season, so the best time to duck hunt at Santa Adela is when your schedule allows!
